The semi-final line up is set for the US Open – Novak Djokovic will play Gael Monfils and Stan Wawrinka will be facing Kei Nishikori. Novak had the benefit of a retirement when Jo-Wilfried Tsonga quit the match at the end of the second set because of an injury to his left knee – Djokovic advanced 6-3, 6-2 RTD. Monfils meanwhile defeated Lucas Pouille 6-4, 6-3, 6-3.
In a stunning match Nishikori stopped Andy Murray’s amazing summer run by winning a thriller 1-6, 6-4, 4-6, 6-1, 7-5. There was some wonderful tennis played in this match as Nishikori reached his second semi at the US Open. Then in a match that ended at 1.20am, Wawrinka accounted for a courageous Juan Martin Del Potro 7-6, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.
