The multi award-winning tournament is always looking to provide our tennis savvy guests a greater experience. This year, in ord r to better meet the diverse needs of fans, the tournament is introducing a new scheduling program which will see day and night session tickets on sale for the very first time.
Rolex Shanghai Masters Tournament Director Michael Luevano said: “Every year at the Rolex Shanghai Masters we look to make enhancements and to give Shanghai’s great tennis fans and all those followers of this sport, different opportunities to see their favorite players in action.
“This year we are excited to introduce day and night sessions to the Rolex Shanghai Masters schedule. This has been under consideration for some time. It is something that works very successfully around the world at many of the biggest tournaments like the US Open, the Australian Open, the ATP Finals and more.
“We have one of the best tennis facilities in the world and we want to showcase it to more fans and take things to another level with the excitement of night matches. We look forward to all our guests enjoying the new scheduling format.”
The Rolex Shanghai Masters is the only official ATP Tour tournament in Asia that is scheduled to host each of the Big 3 – Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer and Rafa Nadal as well as every other player in the top 20.
Over the last 20 plus years tennis in Shanghai has grown exponentially. The commercial capital of China is the city that opened the nation to world class tennis. From its start in 1998 with the Heineken Open to the groundbreaking Tennis Masters Cup to the present Rolex Shanghai Masters, the tennis market has matured, and the box office is booming.
There was a time in China when local fans watched matches alone, but now the appetite for the highest level of tennis is shared with friends and family and the connection with the sport is constantly growing.
Patrick Yang, Chairman of Juss Event, said: “The superstars of tennis we expect at the Rolex Shanghai Masters promise brilliant matches and our new day and night scheduling will allow more fans to witness these amazing athletes in action.
“Previously fans could only buy all-day tickets to watch matches and we heard from many office workers about their disappointment at missing some of the action. Tickets were difficult to come by but this new scheduling frees up more opportunities for tennis fans to see the great action at Qi Zhong.
“As event hosts of a major international tennis event, we see it as a great responsibility to further popularize China’s tennis culture, to cultivate the market and strive to let more fans have the opportunity to visit a great venue and feel the atmosphere at one of the world’s most highly regarded tournaments. The new scheduling will expand the viewing space and serve spectators better with the day and night tickets.”
Besides Chinese tennis fans, the Rolex Shanghai Masters has been seeing a year-on-year increase in foreign visitors coming to Qizhong Tennis Center. This new ticket scheduling will also give them an opportunity to explore one of the world’s great cities.
Every year advance ticket sales have been increasing at a tremendous rate and as a result tennis fans are advised to get in early as sessions fill up fast, in particular the last three days which are sold out weeks in advance.
Alison Lee, Executive Vice President of the ATP International Group, said: “Every October, Shanghai hosts the best tennis players in the world at this award-winning ATP tournament.
“The tennis audience in China is growing and Qizhong Tennis Center caters for an exceptional on-site fan experience at the Rolex Shanghai Masters. Adding more sessions to the week’s schedule allows more fans the opportunity to come and enjoy the tennis. This is great news for tennis fans.”
Tickets for the center court from Monday to Friday (October 7th to October 11th) will have the day and night sessions allowing spectators a greater choice according to their personal time. The opportunity to buy all-day tickets, as before, also remains.
The new day and night session prices will be “wallet-friendly” with the National Day celebrations coinciding with the early stages of the tournament. For example, on Oct 7th, the daytime ticket for centre court will cost only 160 yuan (approx. USD23), almost one third of the original all-day ticket price.
And if the whole family wants to watch the match, family tickets will have more preferential choice. There are tickets for two adults with one child and one adult with a child. A daytime ticket for a child will be a minimum 50 yuan (approx. USD7). That is undoubtedly the best choice for the whole family. Office workers not able to attend the day sessions can now buy tickets just for the night session which will save money and allow a good work and social balance.
In addition, to ticketing on the center court, there will also be ticketed seats on Court 3 which will be 90 yuan per day.
